Connecting a Seznam calendar

  • Seznam e-mail and password
  • Checked for changes every 5 minutes

You connect a Seznam calendar with just your e-mail address and password; there is no server address to enter. If two-step verification is on, use a password for applications instead of your regular password.

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • a Seznam e-mail address – addresses ending in @seznam.cz, @email.cz, @post.cz and @spoluzaci.cz work,
  • a password – the one you use to sign in to your Seznam account. If two-step verification is on, you need a password for applications.

Password for applications (only with two-step verification)

With two-step verification on, Seznam doesn’t accept your regular password for CalDAV. Instead, you set a separate password for applications, used by mail programs and calendars. If two-step verification is off, skip this part.

The Seznam account pages are in Czech, so the labels below are given in Czech with their English meaning.

  1. Open your Seznam account security

Sign in to your Seznam account and open Zabezpečení (Security).

  2. Set a password for applications

In the Dvoufázové ověření (two-step verification) section, click Nastavit (Set) next to Heslo pro aplikace (password for applications). Enter the new password twice and click Uložit změny (Save changes).

See the Seznam help page for details.

Connect the calendar in SyncMyDay

  1. Open the Seznam form

In SyncMyDay, click Calendars in the menu and choose the Seznam tile. You can also open the form directly.

  2. Enter your e-mail and password

    • E-mail address – the full address including the domain, e.g. jan.novak@seznam.cz.
    • Password – your Seznam account password, or the password for applications if two-step verification is on.

You don’t enter a server address; SyncMyDay finds it. Click Find calendars.

  3. Choose a calendar

SyncMyDay lists the calendars in your account. Pick the one you want to sync, adjust its name if you like and click Complete Setup. You can switch to another calendar later in the calendar’s detail via Edit.

A calendar marked Read-only can only be the source of a one-way rule. Blockers can’t be written into it, and it can’t be used for two-way sync.

  4. Done

Your Seznam calendar now appears among your calendars.

Troubleshooting

“Seznam rejected the sign-in details.”

  • Make sure you entered the full e-mail address, not just the part before the @.
  • Is two-step verification on? Then your regular password won’t work; use the password for applications.
  • If you changed the password for applications in the meantime, enter the new one.

“The server isn’t accepting more sign-in attempts right now. Please try again in a few minutes.”

After several failed sign-in attempts in a row, further attempts are paused for a while. Wait a few minutes and check the password before trying again.

Sync stopped and I got an e-mail

When the stored password stops working (for example after you changed the password for applications), SyncMyDay pauses the connection and e-mails you. Open the calendar on the Calendars page, click Edit, fill in New password (optional) and click Save changes.

A change didn’t show up in the target calendar right away

Seznam calendars are checked every 5 minutes, so a change shows up within a few minutes.

Technical details

For developers and IT

Connection

  • The server https://caldav.seznam.cz is found via /.well-known/caldav (RFC 6764); the username is the full e-mail address.
  • HTTPS only; the password is encrypted at rest (libsodium).
  • Calendars the account can’t write to are detected via current-user-privilege-set and marked read-only.

Sync

  • Every 5 minutes we compare the calendar’s getctag / sync-token. If it hasn’t changed, events aren’t downloaded again. At least once an hour the whole calendar is re-checked.
  • Events are fetched with a REPORT (calendar-query); recurring events are expanded into individual occurrences on our side.
  • Blockers contain only the rule’s blocker title (e.g. “Busy”), TRANSP:OPAQUE and CLASS:PRIVATE. They have no description, location or attendees, so no invitations are sent.
